HyperOS 3 may hurt emulation performance on some Xiaomi devices

Ana sayfa / News

Xiaomi’s latest Android 16-based update, HyperOS 3, promised speed, fluidity, and better efficiency. But for fans of game emulation, it might be doing the opposite. Several users have flagged a drop in performance, raising questions about how well HyperOS 3 plays with popular emulation setups.

So far, Xiaomi has been rolling out HyperOS 3 across a growing number of phones and tablets. On paper, it’s a solid upgrade: faster boot times, reduced memory load, and tighter system integration. For most everyday apps, it delivers.

But some users on Reddit’s emulation forums have noticed flickering, stuttering, and degraded frame rates when running emulated games post-update. The issue first gained traction with a post from a Xiaomi Pad 6S Pro owner, who shared video proof of severe graphical flicker.

Other users with different Xiaomi models also chimed in, reporting similar symptoms after installing HyperOS 3. While not everyone is affected, the pattern suggests certain devices possibly tied to specific GPUs or firmware builds are struggling with the update under emulation workloads.

To be clear, some are still running emulators just fine. That inconsistency makes the problem harder to pin down.

For users hit hardest by the downgrade in emulation, there’s a possible fix: Turnip v25.3.0 – Revision 5, a custom GPU driver known to boost emulator performance and stability. It’s helped in several reported cases.

However, there’s a catch Turnip drivers don’t support Snapdragon 8 Elite or newer chipsets. That leaves newer flagship users without a clear workaround for now.

Here’s a quick summary of what’s going on:

For Xiaomi users who rely on Android emulation especially for demanding titles or niche platforms, it might be wise to hold off on the HyperOS 3 update until more testing is done. Even with promised gains in responsiveness, the risk of degraded gameplay could outweigh the benefits.

Until a patch or a broader driver solution arrives, performance might not be as stable as it once was.
